6. Ludwig (Louis) B. Wambsgans born 19 December 1841 in Nussdorf, Bavaria, died 13 October 1920 in Dayton, Oregon, married 27 December 1877 in Omaha, Nebraska. From book "Pioneer History of Custer County and Short sketches of early days in Nebraska", by Solomon D. Butcher, page 14.

Louis B. Wambsgans
"One of the interesting characters of this region at that time was Louis Wambsgans, one of the very earliest settlers who located near where Oconto now stands. His house was the only stopping place for a number of years between Plum Creek and the South Loup, and there was hardly a night the year around but that two or three cowboys could not be found at 'Louie's,' as he was familiarly called. He could always furnish sport for the boys in some way, and his annual turkey shoots during the holidays became famous throughout this region. I have heard many a good story told under Louie's hospitable roof."

Page 339, Lewis Wambsgans built the first livery stable.

From - "Dawson County Pioneer" on 21 October 1882 "Louis Wambsgans has opened a new meat market on Second Street"

From the "Plum Creek Gazette" 3/12/1884 "Plum Creek and Custer County Stage line leaves Plum Creek at 8 o'clock A.M. on Tuesdays and Thursday and Saturday. Fare 5 cents per mile. Packages carried. Louis Wambsgans"

From the "Dawson County Pioneeer" of 25 February 1888 "On Thursday morning last the dwelling house of Louis Wambsgans, near Olax, Custer County, was totally destroyed by fire. Loss, about $1500; insurance $700. The fire is supposed to have originated from a defective flue, and was not discovered until it had gained such headway that it could not be extinguished. In fact but few things could be removed from the burning building."

7. Eliza Mary Theadosia Tucker born 4 June 1839 in St. Georges,
Eliza Mary Theadosia Tucker
Bermuda, died 21 February 1919 in Dayton, Oregon. Eliza's father was the Counsel for the United States. She moved to Plum Creek, Nebraska in 1873, with her father after her mother died. She brought all her lovely clothes from Bermuda and the fancy places she wore them, to a sod house in Nebraska. Just imagine how hard life must have been for her coming from a life with many servants to Plum Creek and nothing!

More about Eliza's Ancestors appears in the Tucker File.
